Let’s face it, some men aren’t interested in wedding invites and seating arrangements. Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones whose hubby-to-be is involved in wedding planning or better yet, leading the charge. Either way, here are some ways to get the man you love engaged (pun-intended) in planning your special day.
1 Make it fun
Sounds obvious, right? Often, wedding planning gets way too serious way too quick. This can be an immediate turn-off and makes the rest of the process a chore. While going gangbusters right out of the gates may be exciting for you it could be overwhelming for your partner. Making decision after decision can be exhausting. Pace yourself. Enjoy each step. Of course, you want your wedding to be perfect but it’s more important that you still like each other at the end of the day.
2 A couple that dines together, stays together
Does your fiancé like to eat? Give him the reins on finding caterers and selecting the menu. If you’re worried he’ll choose steak for every course including dessert, you’ll probably be surprised. He wants this day to be just as special as you and wants all your friends and family to have a good time. And who doesn’t like sampling cake?
3 Ownership
Show that you trust him by letting your future husband choose an area to own. This doesn’t mean you get stuck with the oh so fun task of deciding where your chatty aunt sits. Getting him excited in one area may just kick-start him to proactively get involved in other wedding planning.
4 Say cheese
Creating your save-the-dates and invites doesn’t have to break the bank. If professional photographs aren’t in the cards, you have other options. Have your partner find his favorite images of the two of you for consideration. After all, we do live in a selfie world so you probably have a few. Designing it yourself cuts costs and is like a walk down memory lane. Shops like the PrintCafe, with on site designers available in-person or virtually, can remove the stress and will find a solution customized for you. Can’t choose which moments to use? Take the extras not used for the invite and create a series of posters or in a slideshow that can be displayed at your reception.
5 It’s gonna be a party, why not start early.
Get him excited about the wine pairings. And don’t worry about being an expert. There really is only one good way to learn – taste it. Go together to your local wine shop. A good merchant will help you find bottles within your budget and that match your menu. Then, you two have the hard job of corking the vino and deciding for yourself. Spread the sampling over a series of romantic dinners or host a wine tasting with your friends and family. And if you want your guests to continue to celebrate you after the day is over give them a bottle of wine with a custom label.
Your marriage is a partnership, a collaboration. What better way to start it then planning your dream wedding.
